SQE Booking
Share
The SQE is administered exclusively by Kaplan on behalf of the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Booking the SQE involves registration with with Kaplan, pre-booking, and booking exam dates with Pearson VUE.
Registration with Kaplan
The first step is registering with Kaplan and setting up your MySRA account. This account is designed to manage your SQE exam journey. You will need to provide a valid form of photo identification, such as a passport, photo driving licence, or another government-issued ID. Once your registration is complete, you will have access to your SQE account for pre-booking and booking your exams.
Pre-booking
During pre-booking, you may complete an optional diversity survey and must inform the SRA if you are eligible for any SQE exemptions. Additionally, if you require reasonable adjustments, such as accommodations for a disability or specific needs during the exam, you must request these at this stage. Pre-booking is required separately for both SQE1 and SQE2 exams. It is important to note that you can only pre-book and book your SQE2 exams after passing SQE1, unless you have an exemption from SQE1.
Booking Exam Dates
Once pre-booking is complete, you can proceed to book your exam dates. For SQE1, which is a computer-based exam, you will need to log into your SQE account to view available test centres and dates. Pearson VUE administers these assessments in collaboration with Kaplan and offers a range of locations worldwide. You can select your preferred location, subject to availability, and book your exam. Payment for both parts of the SQE1 must be made at the time of booking. On the exam day, your photo ID will be verified at the test centre. SQE1 is conducted over two days, with each day divided into two 153-minute sessions separated by a one-hour break.
For SQE2, booking follows a similar process once you have passed SQE1 or received an exemption. SQE2 assessments are conducted over five days, with two days allocated for oral assessments (interviewing and advocacy) and three days for written assessments (legal drafting, research, and analysis). Booking for oral and written assessments is handled separately, but the payment for both components is made together on the SQE website.
You can register for an SQE candidate account at any time throughout the year. You can book and sit SQE2 only after passing SQE1, unless you have been granted a full exemption by the SRA for SQE1. If you plan to sit your assessment outside the UK, you should be aware that start times may vary at international centres. You should check the specific timing when booking. You have the option to take the SQE assessments in Welsh.
