SQE Identity Verification
Share
To register for the SQE, you must provide a valid, official photo ID. You will need to upload a clear image of your ID at the time of registration, which will be retained throughout your SQE journey. You must keep your uploaded ID up to date. If your ID changes after registration, you should promptly contact the SQE Candidate Services Team to update your records.
Suitable Forms of ID for Verification
A valid official photo ID is required for verification. The recommended form of identification is your passport. Alternatively, the following government-issued identification documents are also acceptable:
- Photocard driving licence
- National identification card with a photograph
- Biometric residence permit
It is important to note that digital IDs are not accepted. Ensure that the ID you provide is valid, contains a photograph, and is officially issued by the government.
Issues with Uploading Your ID
If you experience any difficulties uploading your photo ID during registration, you should contact the SQE Candidate Services Team for assistance. You can reach them by calling 0203 486 3080 or by emailing enquiries@sqe.sra.org.uk. Resolving these issues promptly will ensure that your registration is not delayed.
Identification Requirements on Exam Day
For both SQE1 and SQE2 written assessments, which take place at Pearson VUE test centres, you are required to bring two forms of identification. Your primary identification should ideally be your current, valid passport. However, if you do not have a passport, you may present one of the following as your primary ID, provided it includes an embedded photograph:
- Photocard driving licence
- Photocard national identification card
- Photocard UK biometric residence permit
In addition to your primary identification, you must bring a second form of ID that includes your full name and signature. Acceptable examples include a signed debit or credit card.
For the SQE2 oral assessment, you must bring the same valid photo ID that you uploaded to your SQE account during registration. Ensuring consistency in your identification documents will prevent any issues on the day of your assessment.
Important Identification Rules
All identity documents presented on the exam day must be original. Photocopies or digital images of your identification will not be accepted under any circumstances. No alternative forms of identification will be permitted. If you have any concerns about your ID, you should contact the SQE Candidate Services Team well in advance of your exam date to clarify any issues.
Failure to provide the correct forms of identification on the exam day will result in you being denied entry to the assessment. If this happens, your examination fee. will be forfeited. Additionally, the name on your identification must exactly match the name you provided during your SQE registration. Assessment centre staff do not have the authority to make exceptions or alter the identification requirements. You must bring your identification as specified for each day of your examination.
