SQE Prep Course

The SQE Preparation Courses offered by UOLLB are meticulously designed to help you master the functioning legal knowledge needed to pass the SQE. Our course covers all SQE modules across the two components of the SQE: Functioning Legal Knowledge 1 (FLK1) and Functioning Legal Knowledge 2 (FLK2)

FLK1 Modules

Business Law and Practice
This module introduces you to the legal considerations involved in running a business. Topics include forming business entities and understanding their respective rights, obligations, and liabilities. It also covers stakeholder rights, corporate governance, financing, and regulatory compliance. Practical scenarios such as taxation and business termination are explored, emphasising the role of solicitors in advising businesses effectively.

Constitutional and Administrative Law
This module focuses on the structure and principles underpinning the UK legal system. You will learn about the separation of powers, parliamentary sovereignty, and the rule of law. Judicial review and administrative law are key areas, teaching students how government decisions are challenged. This module provides critical insight into how the legal system interacts with the broader democratic framework.

Contract Law
This module covers the formation, interpretation, and enforcement of contracts. You explore essential elements like offer, acceptance, consideration, and intention to create legal relations. The module also examines vitiating factors such as misrepresentation, duress, and undue influence, along with breach of contract and available remedies, including damages and specific performance.

Dispute Resolution
This module focuses on resolving civil disputes, equipping you with knowledge of negotiation, mediation, and litigation processes. Key topics include jurisdiction, case management, rules of evidence, and enforcement of judgments. You will learn practical skills like drafting pleadings, advising clients, and strategising for successful dispute resolution.

Legal Services
This module covers the regulation of solicitors and other legal professionals in England and Wales. It highlights the SRA standards, ethical considerations, and the professional obligations of lawyers. Topics include client care, conflict of interest, confidentiality, and compliance with SRA principles.

Legal System of England and Wales
This module provides an overview of the English legal system, including its courts, legal personnel, and the sources of law such as case law, legislation, and EU law. You will gain a deep understanding of the judiciary's role and the distinction between civil and criminal law, preparing them for specialised study.

Tort Law
This module addresses civil wrongs, including negligence, nuisance, trespass, and product liability. You will learn to identify when a duty of care exists, breaches occur, and damages are owed. The module explores defences such as contributory negligence and public interest considerations, emphasising the balance between claimant protection and broader societal interests.

FLK2 Modules

Criminal Law
This module delves into offences such as theft, assault, homicide, and drug-related crimes. You will study the required elements of criminal liability, including actus reus and mens rea. Defences such as self-defence, insanity, and duress are also explored, providing a comprehensive understanding of criminal culpability.

Criminal Practice
This module complements Criminal Law by focusing on the procedural aspects of the criminal justice system. Topics include arrest, bail, plea negotiation, trial preparation, and sentencing. You will learn about the rights of defendants, victims, and witnesses, ensuring they understand the full spectrum of criminal proceedings.

Land Law
This module covers the ownership and use of land, exploring key concepts like freehold and leasehold estates, easements, covenants, mortgages, and adverse possession. You will learn how property rights are established, transferred, and protected, forming the foundation for practical applications in property transactions.

Property Practice
This module focuses on transactional work, including buying, selling, and leasing property. You will learn the procedural steps of conveyancing, the role of solicitors in drafting contracts, and ensuring compliance with regulations such as anti-money laundering laws.

Solicitors Accounts
This module ensures students can manage client funds in compliance with SRA Accounts Rules. Topics include maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, and preventing misuse of client money. You will gain hands-on experience in financial management essential for legal practice.

Trusts Law
This module explores the creation and administration of trusts, focusing on the roles and duties of trustees, the rights of beneficiaries, and the principles of equity. You will learn about express, implied, and constructive trusts, as well as remedies for breach of trust, providing insight into this critical area of law.

Wills and the Administration of Estates
This module covers the drafting of wills, intestacy rules, and the administration of deceased estates. You will study the legal requirements for valid wills, inheritance tax implications, and the practical steps of estate management. The module equips you to advise clients on succession planning and resolve disputes over estates.
